New Children's Program! (by Elaine Albertson)
It can feel challenging to raise vegan kids in our current society, but anything we can do to help children learn healthy habits while they’re young will help them for life! At AVS, we want to support families in choosing a healthy plant-based diet, and one way to do that is for children to meet and have fun with other kids who are eating the same way.
Now, during each of our potlucks, children from toddlers to ten-year-olds will have fun, educational activities for about 45 minutes while the adults see the demos and programs.
After eating with their families, the kids (AVS Sprouts) will go with me (Elaine Albertson) down the hall to a classroom where they will have age-appropriate lessons, music and crafts. Some of the topics included will be about plants, food, animals, families, the earth, and seasons.

Older children and parents are asked to take turns helping out. We’ll plan a schedule so no one will need to always miss the adult happenings. If we get enough kids that it becomes necessary to divide them into two groups, I’ll plan and oversee the lessons and activities for both.
I am a retired educator, with many years of experience teaching school in multi-graded, multi-cultural class situations. If parents have any questions about the activities, they may email me at elaine@alaskaveg.org or call me at 907-775-1017. I’m excited about this new opportunity to support families!
